EXPLORING WIRE

This class gives students an opportunity to really know and understand wire. We look at and work with different metals, and the tools required for working with wires and achieving the bends, folds and wraps desired.  Students will learn about hardness and the windows of working room that wire provides.

Students will also learn to make coils, jump rings, endpins, beads and bead cages, chain maille, and jewelry parts, including an assortment of earring wires, clasps and connectors, and then experiment with different ways to create patina and oxidation. You will also learn how to apply dimension and texture to wire, how to use different hammers, the anvil, how to use the various wire jigs that are on the market, and how to make one of your own.

This class is a preliminary class, in the art of metalsmithing.
