These unusual crystals are an amazing work of Nature. They grow in a perfect cross, and are known as Fairy Crosses, or Fairy Crystals. There are usually two perfect crystal formations. One is a perfect traditional cross, and the other is a "St. Andrews" cross.

There are only three places on earth where these are found: Russia, New Mexico, and Virginia.

Garnets grow in these crystals, and each staurolite will either have garnets visible, or "gem beds" where the garnets have grown and been knocked out.

Legend has it that these garnets represent the tears that were shed by fairies when they learned of the death of Jesus. Native Americans used to embed these crystals into the adobe walls of their abodes for protection.
